The initial restrictions introduced by the Government in March meant that we had no option but to cancel all our events. So the league fixtures for the rest of the season were cancelled as were the Kent Inter-Regional in April and our Inter-Club event in May. This is in line with similar actions in other parts of the county.
Our AGM, which would normally be held in June, has been postponed indefinitely.
The government announced (16th March) that all unnecessary travel should be avoided and that personal; contacts should be kept to a minimum - and other such restrictions.
In the light of that all of our events have now been cancelled. So the league fixtures for the rest of the season are cancelled as is the Kent Inter-Regional in April and our Inter-Club event in May. This is in line with similar actions in other parts of the county.

Herne Bay Junior Badminton Club celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday 7 December. To celebrate, we held a UV (Ultra-violet) session. We turned the lights off and covered the courts, shuttles, racquets, nets, and of course the players in UV tape, lights, and body paint. UV cannons then lit everything up and the celebration and the games began.
The event was attended by VIP Guests including: Sue Whetnall, Geoff Rofe, and Holly Williams.

Hi folks, We can’t put it off any longer - we need to start work on the league for next season.
The only rule change at the AGM was that awarding an extra point to each team which was fielded at full strength. An updated set of rules will be issued later and will be on the website.
There was no change at the AGM from the same timetable as last year – that is to aim to issue the new division structure around the time of the late summer Bank Holiday – 26th August.
It’s with great sadness that we have learnt that Roger Williams passed away a few days ago on the 9th July. Even if you haven’t known him personally or played against him on court, you will know that he looked after our website for many years and we owe him a great deal. He was just 72 - not a great age these days.
The funeral service will take place on Monday 29th July 2019 at 11.
Our end of season inter-club competition had an entry of 10 teams and the feedback was again very positive. We continue to learn about the handicapping and it seemed to work well this year. The final table shows the total raw points and those adjusted by the handicap with Wyndgate as the winners this year:
Squad raw for raw against final for final against ratio Wyndgate 655 385 667 531 1.
This is just a brief note about the outcome of our AGM and what’s in the air for the coming season.
We welcome Mike Barham and Lee Funnel as new members on the Committee.
All clubs should have received advance notice from Badminton England about changes for next season - mainly fee changes and insurance dates. I am awaiting response from them to a query I have about coverage for new players during September and October.
The Inter-Regional events that we organise on behalf of KBL were successful once again with our local teams taking part in all the competitions. Full results are on the Kent website but in outline:
Our senior team won Division 1 - congratulations to them - we haven’t managed that for quite some time. We also entered a second team which had some close games in Division 2.
Our juniors performed well against strong opposition, only narrowly missing out on third place out of six in the under-15’s.
Many thanks to all the teams who entered this year, and congratulations to our divisional winners:

Mixed 1 - Hartsdown Park
Mens6 1 - The Kings I
Mens6 2 - Hartsdown Park
Mens6 3 - Ajax

There are many players who know John Cambell, one of our longest playing men, who has played competitively in Kent since the 1960’s. He has been unwell. To our (and his relief) he in now back home and will no doubt be returning to play shortly.
So, for anyone wanting to play badminton in the masters divisions, we can confirm that the game is still as competitive as ever and despite various afflictions over the years, there are still games to play.
Our AGM has been arranged for Thursday 13th June. Please let David know by the end of April if there is anything you would like to have included in the agenda – particularly any proposals for rule changes.
You may remember that we have been recognising an outstanding contribution (not just success in playing) made to local badminton by a junior member of a club. Let David know if you have a candidate for ‘Junior Player of the Year’.
Our new website is here! Please take a look through the site where you’ll find up to date information on our clubs and competitions.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our former Webmaster Roger for all his work on the website over the years.
If you have any news, feedback or updates to club details etc that you’d like to add to the site please use the contact page to let us know.
This annual event for local junior clubs was held at King Ethelbert’s, Westgate, on 25th November. Due to a misunderstanding there was one club short from the expected five so there were eight teams taking part from 4 clubs.
Full results have been issued to the clubs involved. This is a summary showing the total points scored and the final positions in each group.
Group 1 Ajax Herne Bay A For Against Ratio F/A Ajax x 241 241 368 0.
